The term “the grace that is in Christ Jesus”, speaks of divine influence upon a heart, and its reflection in your life. The redemptive work of Christ on the cross is what allows repentant sinners to receive God’s forgiveness for sin and be restored to right standing with Him. Grace- what an undeserved and amazing gift!
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The words of this favorite old hymn by John Newton speak to God’s transforming power in his life. After years as a hardened slave trader, the “wretch” met Jesus Christ, and his life abruptly changed, so that he preached the very gospel which he had long despised.
The following words were attributed to Newton when he was older and in poor health: “My memory is nearly gone, but I remember two things: that I am a great sinner, and that Christ is a great Savior!” May we be strengthened by the grace of God as we sing, “’tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound…”
