Pleasing to the Lord | Colossians 3:23

By |2020-10-05T16:17:56-08:00October 12th, 2019|

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men… Colossians 3:23 (ESV) What is the attitude of your heart when you think about being hospitable or are asked to serve in the church? In its context, this verse is addressed to slaves! A believing slave is asked to do everything as if she were doing it for the Lord—not just to please her master! In this passage, a Christian is being portrayed as a willing slave to Christ. The Greek word for work means ‘to minister’ or ‘commit’. As we have opportunities to minister to others through hospitality or another service, whether something we enjoy or work that is difficult, may we commit to the task with all our heart, giving of our whole self, so that our work might be pleasing to the Lord.  Others may not notice our obedient attitude, but God will! Won’t you ask Him today to make you aware of the work He has for you? Then perform it heartily as if you are working for only Him! Hospitable Joy-Spreaders | Romans 12:13-16a

By |2020-10-05T16:19:20-08:00October 12th, 2019|

Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty but associate with the lowly.  Romans 12:13-16a (ESV)  These verses are powerful! The commands here are not easy to live out. We cannot be selfish if we are going to obey because it will require our time, money, compassion, and maybe even forgiveness. We need the power of God to cultivate a heart of hospitality that desires to live in harmony with others. Sister, don’t be discouraged… Hospitality is a clear way to obey the Lord and spread His joy to others. He will strengthen us to do what He has called us to do. Hospitality can begin simply with a welcoming smile to a stranger in the church foyer.  Ask God to soften your heart toward others and give wisdom. Let’s look for ways to be hospitable joy-spreaders, and love people as God loves them! Would you like to read the other devotionals in this series?   Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace… 1 Peter 4:9-11a (ESV) Click here to download this beautiful fall printable for free Click here to share this image with your friends and family on Facebook Peter tells us in these verses that we are to show hospitality to one another and serve one another without grumbling, to be good stewards of God’s grace toward us. Those words stopped me in my tracks… stewards of God’s varied grace… Wow! As stewards of God’s grace, we can show hospitality and serve others. The goal? God’s glory, not our own.  Why not take cookies to a new neighbor, invite someone you don’t know well over for coffee or her whole family for a simple dinner of soup and bread? Ask the Lord for strength and wisdom, and serve according to His leading. Sister, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you can practice an attitude of hospitality shining God’s light to the world around you! Won’t you ask Him to show you where to begin? Christians & Halloween | Free Printable Candy Cards (& Stickers!)

By |2020-10-05T16:43:58-08:00October 8th, 2019|

Should Christians take part in Halloween festivities? Truthfully, I haven't formed a strong, theological opinion. Please comment below and tell me your thoughts! I love talking through these things with you. Over time, our family has taken the "less-is-more" approach with Halloween. One reason for this is quite simple- we live in a rural part of Alaska and no one comes trick-or-treating at our house! Another important factor we consider is protecting our young children from the scary and immodest costumes that come out in droves on October 31st. Dale & Veronica Partridge shared similar views in their recent podcast episode. Listen here. That said, there is certainly an opportunity for Christians to be a light in the darkness and to share the love of Christ with their neighbors. Allie Stuckey and her mother discuss this idea in a recent episode of Relatable. Listen here.   While listening to Allie's mother, I was impressed by her winsome and fun attitude! Though I don't agree with her contextual use of certain Scriptures or some of her Halloween decor suggestions, she makes it known that she is a Christian in a welcoming way. This woman wants to use October 31st to #spreadjoy,
