Do you have a sister in Christ who is discouraged because of trials in her life? These words are for you!
The Greek word for build is defined as “to promote growth in Christian wisdom, affection, grace, virtue and holiness.” In other words, we each have a responsibility to other believers. We are all in this life together!
This verse encourages each of us:
- to be supportive of other believers,
- to warn a person when necessary,
- to give comfort to a friend who is hurting, and
- to offer godly counsel to someone who needs it.
As we come alongside another, we each will be built up to a maturity in Christ which may never have happened on our own!
Maybe you feel that your life is too hectic already— you don’t have time to encourage another person. This verse is not just a suggestion for us: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” It is assumed that we are already doing these things!
Let’s ask God this week to bring someone to mind who may need our support, and to give us a creative way to respond to that need.
May we work together to encourage one another!
