Should Christians take part in Halloween festivities?
Truthfully, I haven’t formed a strong, theological opinion. Please comment below and tell me your thoughts! I love talking through these things with you.
Over time, our family has taken the “less-is-more” approach with Halloween. One reason for this is quite simple- we live in a rural part of Alaska and no one comes trick-or-treating at our house! Another important factor we consider is protecting our young children from the scary and immodest costumes that come out in droves on October 31st. Dale & Veronica Partridge shared similar views in their recent podcast episode. Listen here.
That said, there is certainly an opportunity for Christians to be a light in the darkness and to share the love of Christ with their neighbors. Allie Stuckey and her mother discuss this idea in a recent episode of Relatable. Listen here.
While listening to Allie’s mother, I was impressed by her winsome and fun attitude! Though I don’t agree with her contextual use of certain Scriptures or some of her Halloween decor suggestions, she makes it known that she is a Christian in a welcoming way. This woman wants to use October 31st to #spreadjoy, and that’s something I can get behind!
Many of you have dozens, maybe even hundreds, of children ringing your doorbell on Halloween, and have requested a Scripture card to hand out to the children who come to the door. You KNOW I’m the free printable Scripture card chick! Ask and ye shall receive… 😉
I created this set of free printables to help you plant seeds of God’s love in the hearts of your neighbors this fall!
You’ll get 3 options, all within one simple (free) digital download:
- Small & Medium-Sized Cards– Print these on plain paper, cardstock, or full-sized 8.5″ x 11″ sticker paper! Cut and attach to candy. Here is an example of sticker paper you can try. (*Affiliate link. If you choose to purchase through this link, I may earn a small commission at no cost to you.)
- Large 4″ x 6″ Card– Frame this card and set it next to your candy bowl, or tape it next to your doorbell.
(Yes, I wrote: “tape it next to your doorbell”! LOL! What? Did you expect a fancy DIY? I’m no Martha Stewart. You’ll thank me when this project only takes 5 minutes. 😉 )

This fall Scripture card isn’t limited to Halloween alone. Pass them out to your students, Sunday School class or at a fall festival!
Keep in mind that you have unlimited personal printing rights. That means you can print and give away as many of these as you wish! However, these cards and digital files may not be sold or altered in any way.
