Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men… Colossians 3:23 (ESV)
What is the attitude of your heart when you think about being hospitable or are asked to serve in the church? In its context, this verse is addressed to slaves! A believing slave is asked to do everything as if she were doing it for the Lord—not just to please her master! In this passage, a Christian is being portrayed as a willing slave to Christ.
The Greek word for work means ‘to minister’ or ‘commit’.
As we have opportunities to minister to others through hospitality or another service, whether something we enjoy or work that is difficult, may we commit to the task with all our heart, giving of our whole self, so that our work might be pleasing to the Lord.
Others may not notice our obedient attitude, but God will! Won’t you ask Him today to make you aware of the work He has for you? Then perform it heartily as if you are working for only Him!
